Signs You Might Have Alopecia

  • Alena Maxwell
  • When you lose your hair, it can be one of the most stressful events in your life. While more common among men, and often passed on genetically, it has also been known to affect women, too. If you are worried about alopecia and want to counteract it, then it is a good idea to understand some of the tell-tale signs. This guide has been created to inform you of the signs of alopecia and to give some suggestions for reducing its effects. Read on for further information.

    Bald Patches

The difficulties of living with alopecia were thrust into the spotlight in recent months when Will Smith dramatically defended his wife at the Oscars by slapping Chris Rock after he made a joke about her looking like G.I. Jane. One of the common symptoms of this issue is having bald patches. This means that if you are starting to see bald patches, there is every chance that you are developing alopecia. In this situation, you can either look to remedy the problem or create an even hairline by shaving your head.

Excess Hairs in Your Brush or Drain

The average person loses around 50-100 hairs a day, so if you notice that there is hair on your brush or on your drain then this is nothing to be overly worried about. Nonetheless, if you do start to notice more hairs than perhaps there should be, then this could be a tell-tale sign of a more profound issue developing. If you notice that there are a lot of hairs in your drain; for example, after you take a shower, then it would make sense to schedule a meeting with a medical professional, who will be able to advise you on any necessary treatment.

    Thinning Eyebrows or Eyelashes

It’s worth pointing out that when it comes to hair loss, the hairs on the top of your head are not the only place to look. In fact, you should be making sure that you take a look at your eyebrows and eyelashes. If you find that they have been thinking, then this could also be a sign that you have alopecia. One of the best ways to defend yourself against the effects of hair loss is by taking finasteride. You can find a great selection over at chemistclick.co.uk

    Brittle or Red Nails

It is not only your hair that you should be looking at when it comes to understanding and then fighting against the very real effects of alopecia—but you should also be looking at your nails. Two signs that you have alopecia that you can see are both having brittle nails that split at the end or red nails. If you have taken a look at your nails and you are worried about whether or not you might have alopecia, then it is definitely a good idea to make sure that you schedule an appointment with a dermatologist. They will be able to determine whether or not this is a serious problem that needs further treatment.
