How You Can Make Yourself More Employable

  • Samara
  • Getting a job is something that everyone has to do. However, it can be difficult at times. There are going to be pointed in your life when you are looking for a job and struggling. This doesn’t mean that you are a bad worker or not an appealing employee. Sometimes, it can just be a very competitive market. A lot of industries have eager people looking for jobs, with not enough roles to accommodate everyone. This means that you could go a couple of weeks without having a successful application. If you are growing impatient and frustrated by this, then you might need to make some changes. In order to make yourself appear more employable, there are some things to keep in mind.

    Getting Qualified

You need to make sure that you have the right qualifications in order to get into your desired field. Although you might feel as if you have the skills and the mindset to do the job properly, it can be hard to convince an employer of this without qualification. As well as this, if you are going up against people with better qualifications in this area, you are going to really struggle. So even if you feel like it is a waste of time, you have to go out and get a qualification. Otherwise, you are always going to be on the losing side of an employment decision. This doesn’t always mean that you have to go to college for 4 years, however. There are some really great online courses that can give you strong qualifications. For example, oil and gas classes online could give you the qualification to get into this industry or change specialisms. These are the kinds of things you could be doing in your spare time to seem more appealing to an employer. Even if you already have qualifications, you might want to add to this.

    Getting Experience

Unless you are trying to get an entry-level job, you are going to find it hard to get a job without any experience. This is why you need to make this a priority when it comes to making yourself more employable. For most people, this does mean focusing on getting into an entry-level job. If you are struggling with this, then you might have to look for some work experience. Although this might not always be paid, you are going to be thankful for the experience that you had, and this will go down well for you in the eyes of an employer.

    Having Good References

An employer is going to want to think they are making the right decision when they are hiring you. One of the best ways that you can do this is by having good references from previous employers. If they give you a good reference, then this is going to give potential employers the confidence that you are a beneficial addition to a team.
